Our Consultant Spotlight Q&A Series highlights our consultants across each of the three divisions within the Compass Associates brand. The latest article in this series introduces Morgan Whelan from the Healthcare division.

What is your role and how long have you worked at Compass?

I work as a Senior Consultant within the General Healthcare Division. I started at Compass back in January 2022 – so have just recently celebrated my 2 year anniversary!

What markets do you cover?

I operate within the private diagnostics sector, covering the North, Midlands and Scotland. My typical assignments include modality radiographers, PACS / RIS managers, consultant radiologists and clinical application specialists.

What advice would you give to job seekers?

Take the time to think about what you want your next role to offer you both in the short and long term, as this will allow you to ask questions that are more relevant to you during the interview process, ensuring the position aligns with your goals.

Furthermore, working with a well-networked recruiter will give you access to exclusive roles that aren’t on job boards or LinkedIn.

Current changes you foresee within the sector?

As NHS outsourcing continues to increase in diagnostics, more mobile units and community diagnostic centres will continue to open across the UK to facilitate this demand. The use of AI and the rate at which it is implemented across the sector will no doubt shape the future of imaging – it is already being used on a wide scale to improve the efficiency / accuracy of diagnosis, as well as to enhance image quality.

This, combined with the forecasted growth of the UK private diagnostics sector (due to our ageing population and a shift from public to private healthcare), and its ever-increasing appeal to investors, makes for an exciting few years ahead in diagnostics.

Career highlight within Compass

I take great pleasure seeing connections from my network that I have known for years growing and developing their careers. On a personal level, being promoted to Senior Consultant and being nominated for a Core Values Award are both standouts. Although I must admit, recently retaining the Compass Pool League title is up there!

 A bit about you outside of work

I love football and am a season ticket holder at Man United (I’m currently open to offers if anybody is interested ha!).

I have a soft spot for a game of pool / snooker and I’m no stranger to a concert when my favourite bands are in town! I enjoy cooking at home, but I’m happiest being cooked for in my favourite restaurants.
