Compass Associates are working with nationally recognised, industry leading care provider to recruit for a Ward Manager to join the team at an inpatient mental health service located in the North-West. You will be working for an established, stable, and agile company with a unique approach to the delivery of care. A strong culture of support and career progression opportunities has been carefully developed, and with future expansions on the horizon, this is a great time to join a growing organisation. Are you an experienced Nurse looking for a new challenge to progress your career? If you would like to make a positive impact on people’s lives, we would like to hear from you.
The service is a purpose-built inpatient rehabilitation hospital in Lancashire. This first-class facility provides accommodation for men who experience a complex range of mental health issues and require long term support and treatment within a controlled environment.
The mental health rehabilitation facility accepts detained service users, referred from medium secure, low secure and psychiatric intensive care unit (PICU) services, as well as those with forensic histories. The unit provides a step-down service for men who no longer require a secure or PICU environment and would benefit from a ‘Recovery Model’ approach.
You will have responsibility for the operational management and leadership of the ward, supported by the Clinical Lead. You will have the necessary skills to lead, support and manage staff, and be visible and accessible to service users, their families, primary care, acute and community health and social care, as well as the voluntary sector. Your skills should enable you to meet the requirements of this demanding post which include balancing operational management, professional leadership, supporting your team and the active development of the service.
You will be a role model and have a clear interest in rehabilitation of service users. You will ensure staff commitment to good evidence-based practice, ensure the delivery of a quality service and that key targets (service objectives and KPIs) are being met.
An important aspect of your role is also to enable service user independence, choice, dignity and ensuring safety.

  • Must be a Registered Nurse with a valid NMC PIN.
  • Previous experience in mental health nursing is highly preferred.
  • Strong leadership skills and experience managing other qualified professionals.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and handle challenging situations with empathy and professionalism.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities to provide safe and effective patient care.
  • A resilient mindset.
  • Experience within inpatient setting is desirable.
