Home Sweet Home – #NCHOD14
Friday 20th June was National Care Home Open Day 2014 – #NCHOD2014. Building on the success of last year’s volunteering we are proud that 6 consultants from across the Care Home Division chose to give up their time to go into various homes across the UK.
Hollie Mae-Clarke and Pete Griffiths got into the spirit for the “Round the World” themed day at Gracewell’s Parker Meadows nursing home in Fareham by dressing up in Mexcian attire and taking Nachos and dips for the residents. The home had food from around the world from pizza to Hungarian Goulash and they also had a professional bagpipe player and an ice cream stand! Hollie and Pete spent the afternoon with the residents of the home finding out about their life stories and helping serve drinks and food. Children from the local school came in and there was a karaoke machine which tempted Pete into treating the residents to his well-received rendition of ‘Mack The Knife’.
Meanwhile Cassie Pay and Gareth Guyll visited BUPA’s Freelands Croft nursing home in Fleet helping the home serve drinks and snacks and participating in reminiscence storytelling. Cassie and Gareth also spent time talking with residents and their families and helping out setting up the home ready for the entertainment.
From our Manchester office Jo Herod and Laura Hobbs visited another BUPA nursing home, Woodend in Altrincham spending time talking with residents in the garden. David Jones, Home Manager commented: “On Friday 20th June National Care Home Open day we were delighted to welcome two volunteers, Jo and Laura, from Compass Associates to our home. After a tour of the home they both got to know our residents, and spent several hours in their company, to the delight of Jo and Laura and our residents too. It was a fun day for all and I would have no hesitation in inviting them both back again.”
As part of our commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility Compass Associates’ “Time to Give” volunteering programme offers employees the opportunity to give up one work day to support local charities and initiatives.
