Compass Associates Core Values
Core Values are the principles that guide how we behave, both internally within the business, and with our candidates and clients. The original Compass Core Values were devised by Sam, Mike and Chris, the founding Directors of the business, nearly 8 years ago and were the principles they wanted to build their business around. Over the last 8 years, Compass Associates has grown and changed significantly, opening up two new offices in Brighton and Manchester, moving our headquarters to a larger building to accommodate our increasing workforce and making changes to our management structure. Our Core Values were written when the company was formed in 2010, so it felt timely to assess whether they were fit for purpose and still aligned with where we are now as a business. As part of this project in 2017, we embarked on a series of workshops to engage with employees around the existing Compass Associates’ Core Values and how staff felt they were experienced day to day in the business. Feedback was overwhelmingly positive about our culture, and employees felt with some minor tweaks and a few additions, the Core Values were an accurate reflection of what people could expect working here.
Having listened to employees, our new Core Values are now more representative of our business as a whole and our day-to-day operations, having been re-written to be more specific to Compass Associates and recruitment. We have also added two new Core Values; “Professional Development” to highlight our commitment to empowering our employees to develop themselves with new skills and qualifications and “Entrepreneurial Spirit” to reflect how we encourage all our consultants to act like ‘business owners’ within their sector and making their own commercial decisions for their desk.
Our new Core Values are:
1. Delivery of Service
We strive to exceed both our client’s and candidate’s expectations with precision, transparency and professionalism. Versatility, efficiency and knowledge are the key elements in ensuring a successful experience and a consultative approach to each requirement.
2. Flexibility and Adaptability
We are acutely aware of the ever-changing climate within Health and Social Care; from financial constraints related to austerity, to legal changes or sector reform. We are adaptable and can offer clients and candidates a flexible, tailored approach suited to their requirements.
3. Professionalism and Integrity
We act in an ethical, honest and professional manner at all times and engage with our candidates and clients in a personable, transparent and individual manner.
4. Team Work
We align consultants geographically, or by market, so they can collaborate with their peers and offer clients and candidates the best service. Sharing a common vision of outstanding service and sector knowledge allows us to celebrate success together. We believe Team Work is the cornerstone of a successful and vibrant business.
5. Professional Development
We are committed to empowering our employees to develop their skills, qualifications and market knowledge. This in turn ensures our consultants can offer a truly consultative service. Our investment in a variety of initiatives, tools and training whilst encouraging a culture of sharing and learning is key to staff engagement, progression and satisfaction.
6. Entrepreneurial Spirit
We encourage our consultants to ‘act like business owners’. They make their own commercial decisions, build their market-knowledge, meet candidates and clients, and provide a consultative service that reflects the standards and quality associated with our brand. We promote ingenuity and creativity within our day to day work to ensure an unrivalled service for our clients and candidates.
Together with the launch of our new Core Values, I am excited to launch a peer-to-peer recognition initiative where employees are encouraged to nominate colleagues exhibiting Core Values day to day. These nominations will be reviewed and shared across the business regularly and put forward for our end of year Core Values Awards, something employees highlighted they wanted to be more involved in.
Lastly, I want to personally thank all our employees who gave up their time to be a part of this project and entered into the spirit of providing honest feedback. Culture isn’t something that can be prescribed, it’s experienced day to day and lived by everyone who works here and that’s why I am confident our new and improved values stand us in good stead for the years to come.
